Millet (etchings) to Van Gogh (oils) to me (watercolors)
These works are an excercise designed to give me a different perspective on my watercolor techniques. In the 1850s Millet did a series of etchings of farm workers. In the 1880s, Van Gogh, painting in oils, used these etchings to help him develop his techniques (after he had already seen the originals). I am using Van Gogh's paintings to help me further develop my watercolor technique, ending with the last two, 'Butter Churning' and 'Hauling' (which Van Gogh did not do) to try my hand at taking1
