What’s On The Easel

September 2025, Vol. VII, No. 9

A monthly newsletter from Jim Fischer

From Millet to Van Gogh to Me (etching to oil to watercolor) continues...

Number 6 on the easel…

…five done…

…three to go!

An Imagination Series piece for lunch…

Beets. That’s right, beets (or, at least, the juice). Having beets for lunch, I had some left over beet juice and, what the heck, wiped it onto a mat board and there it was.

The title is “Jesus, Jesus (the last words of Joan of Arc)”.

Final touch for dining-room…

With the arrival of the mid-century modern lamp for the dining room table, the furnishing of our Rochester townhouse is complete.

The lamp came from, of all places, Odessa, Ukraine, and the young lady who sells them from there on Etsy sent her thanks to us, and all Americans, for supporting their fight against Russian aggression.

The mother of invention…

Among guitar players (like me) one of our perpetual dilemmas is ‘where to put the pick.’ The common solution is to stick it in the strings (sending the guitar out of tune). So, I came up with what I feel is a better solution:

Steph says I should patent it.

All work and no play…

We have been here in Rochester for over a year and seen little of the surrounding environs. So, taking advantage of a visit from a friend, we took a day trip to one of the more impressive sights:

The gorge that the Genesee river (which also flows through Rochester) created in Litchfield State Park is called ‘The Grand Canyon of the East’ with no less than 3 waterfalls in a row, each over 100 feet high (we also did a day trip on one of the Finger Lakes wine trails).

And, as always, there’s a political cartoon.

That’s all for now. Be well, be safe and ‘What’s on your easel?’
